About Seward Motor Freight
Seward Motor Freight, Inc., provides transportation solutions to a variety of clients throughout America’s lower-48 states. The company was founded by Willard Meir in the 1940s as a less than a truck load (LTL) with authority to transport goods between major cities in Nebraska. Wayne and Joan Tanderup acquired the business in the late 60s after selling their house, car, life insurance policies and obtaining a small business loan from Jones National Bank. The company grew from the original seven employees to several hundred over the next thirty years. Seward Motor Freight Inc. lanes of travel expanded well-beyond the state of Nebraska to operate in several major areas from the panhandle of Florida to the hustle and bustle of Chicago to the salt flats of Salt Lake City to the rich historic culture of Pennsylvania and back again to the plains of Nebraska. Much of Seward Motor Freight’s success is credited to the guidance of its executive leadership team directed by President/CEO Joan Tanderup. She has support from senior management, Chief Finance Officer Ron Niemoth, Vice President of Operations Joyce Helge and Vice President of Safety Erich Helge. Besides orchestrating the business’ growth, the leadership team ensures that the company remains engaged with the trucking industry at a state and national level and always focused on community services and projects. During the City of Seward’s Band Shell restoration the company donated time and equipment for the transportation of materials to the site to help keep the project on budget. On a state level the company commitment to working with the local technical schools has benefited many students entering into the industry by offering hands on driver-education and technical-training programs. Our company’s continuous devotion, commitment and leadership to the trucking industry is a small part that keeps America moving.
